    Best Time to Visit

Summertime, when the taste of a cool beer at one of the city’s festival is its most refreshing in the outdoor sun. The city’s parks, Tiergarten and Viktoria become prime picnic spots and open-air events include the Lesbian-Gay Festival.

    What to Pack

Berlin is a walking city, so comfortable footwear to tread the concrete around the monuments should be first in your case. Or consider cycling, and bring some shorts for the rides. Euros are essential since credit cards are not universally accepted.

    General Tips

As a cultural center, Berlin has perhaps never been in better shape than it is right now. The German capital developed in the late 21st century thanks to an artistic youth at the cutting edge of dance, music and art and it has led to a vibrant nightlife culture with clubs such as Tresor, Watergate, E-Werk and Berghain, street festivals and major events such as the mixed arts Berliner Festspiele (which includes Jazzfest and Theatertreffen), and September’s Berlin Festival for rock music.

The Berliner Philharmonie hosts the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, with their former East Berlin counterpart Konzerthausorchester Berlin at home in Karl Friedrich Schinkel’s 1818 Konzerthaus Berlin.

The Museum Island contains the most important cluster of the city’s classic museums, the Altes, Neues, Bode, Pergamon and Old National Gallery. Berlin Art Week takes place in September along with Art Berlin Contemporary (ABC).
